In order to present Louis Vuitton's new men's collection for autumn-winter 2021, Virgil Abloh, the creative director of the French brand , has produced a superb 15-minute short film through which the poets Saul walk Williams and Kai-Isaiah Jamal and rapper Yasiin Bey (previously known as Mos Def). Louis Vuitton's new film, titled "Peculiar Contrast, Perfect Light", has its roots in the essay "Stranger in the Village" published back in 1953 by James Baldwin . In that work the author compared his experience living in a remote town in Switzerland with his life as an African-American citizen in the United States. The short opens with a scene in which Saul Williams walks through a snowy Swiss landscape. His is a dark and shadowy figure armed with a silver briefcase chained to his wrist. The camera then settles on several men skating on the ice and Williams makes his way into a room with a markedly urban character .
There we see a couple chatting on a bench, a man with the newspaper under his arm and another individual frolicking against a marble wall (as if recovering from the hangover of the previous night).
